PE Interview: Stocker, Lusete!:iconLusete: =lusete Lu is the lady behind the camera, the model in front of, and the mother of 2 beautiful daughters whom she has roped into modelling for her stock.  We are assured there was no bribery involved, but we still aren't convinced! :P  As a continuation of our Project Educate Stock & Resources week we sent her our short list of questions to answer.
What were your first artistic influences, and did they have a hand in the development of your resources?
I joined DeviantArt many years ago and was immediately taken by the photomanipulations. So many amazing works. I started doing some myself and I realised how hard was to find a specific pose or even good objects etc. This is when I took the decision to take my own stock photography. I studied photography at university so grabbing a camera and starting to shoot was not hard, although I was seriously rusty and needed to polish my capturing skills. Thankfully I have 2 daughters that are more than happy to model

You may think that the creation and sharing of stock and resources is a no brainer.  Clearly however its not, and there are a growing number of deviants who for some reason or another seem to not be able to grasp the basic principles.
As the last article we will be launching for Stock & Resources Project Educate week, we are going to attempt to lay it out for you in clear and easy to understand terms.

PE S&R Gallery Guides - MiscatsMiscats
Miscats are as bad for your stock as missing keywords.  They cause problems in the categories you are wrongly submitting to, make our galleries look disorganised and messy, and ultimately inhibit the exposure of your hard work to other artists.
Miscats are one of the most frequently complained about issues on DA.
Common Miscats
There are several varieties we see regularly that include
:bulletred: Placing 3 quarter/cropped or portrait model stock into the full body category.
:bulletred: Placing Interior shots into the Exterior category.
:bulletred: Placing 3D renders and premade stock into the stock photography interior/exterior categories rather than into their own equivalents.
:bulletred: Placing 3D renders into 3D models - which should be reserved for the physical model files, not renders of the model.
:bulletred: Placing landscapes or scenery shots into the Places category which should be reserved for images that show man made objects.

What were your first artistic influences, and did they have a hand in the development of your resources?
It's hard for me to think of my very first artistic influences. I have always carried my camera everywhere and it just seemed natural for me to share my photographs with Deviant Art members. The first stock providers I remember when joining DA were Elandria and previous stock provider, CausticStock, the former being virtually a celebrity on DA and is widely known for her outstanding resources. At the same time I enjoyed CausticStock's stock photographs of historical sites across the UK, and this inspired me to get out and see these places. Providing resources was a hobby that just grew and grew!

You've been a stock provider on deviantART for quite a while now, what first got you interested in providing stock to the community?
When I first came to dA I was amazed at the contributions the stock providers made to the community. I felt selfish just taking without giving something back myself. I found I enjoyed stock as much if not more than I enjoyed doing full manipulations. I love detail, sometimes to a fault, and might spend a day or two on just one item.

There are a lot of artists who use your resources, when you are taking images, or organising new stock to submit, do you look for any elements in particular like angles or lighting when choosing what would be the most useful, and does this reflect equally to when

PE Article: Tips and Advice 'Crediting Resources'One issue that we need to stress on deviantART is to credit your resources you use in your artwork. Crediting is a problem because a lot of people aren't doing the above.Most Stock Artists have individually tailored rules to suit their own personal level.
You must abide by these rules!
Often they include that they want full credit to be given to their use of stock. This is really simple!
All you need to do is..
Include a link/thumb of the stock used. People want to see what the stock has become!
If you don't know how to get the [link] or :thumbxxxxxx: It's simple.
Just copy and paste the URL of the Resource you used and the [link] will appear! For the thumb code, each deviation has one which is listed at the bottom right of the deviation itself or by pressing the small arrow upper right hand corner which gives you some options to share said deviation or to get the thumb code.

We jumped a few time zones and got her to answer our questions for the Stock & Resources Project Educate Week.
What were your first artistic influences, and did they have a hand in the development of your resources?
To be honest, unlike most stock providers I am not coming from a visual art background. In fact, I'm not very good at drawing compared to others at all. However, I come from a performing background - theatre mainly, but a bit of dance too. For me, being a character is so freeing - though I go through dry spells when I'm not on stage. My friend told me one day about stock when complaining I hadn't played a character in a while and invited me to come and play with her for a day. Since then I have been hooked. I love sewing, putting together costumes and characters... it is just like performing

This feature of Typography showcases works that play with negative spac. This recurring theme in both Art and Design, challenges our mind in sometimes such a subtle manner that it is simply amazing. You've been a photomanipulator on DeviantART for some time now, what or who first influenced you in the art world, and how has that impacted your own work?
I've always had a keen interest in art and painting since very young, and I've always had a love for fantasy and fairytale themed images when I was painting and drawing, but my love for photo manipulation and digital art in general happened about 6 years ago when I came across a Photoshop magazine by coincidence. When I saw the amazing photographs were used to create such fantastic artworks I knew that it was exactly what I wanted to learn to do. Ever since then I worked hard o

What were your first artistic influences, and did they have a hand in the development of your resources?
We both had been involved with traditional art, drawing and painting, from a very young age. We developed an interest in photography in 2006 and discovered DeviantART shortly thereafter. Our art exposure influenced the composition and subject matter of our photography. Seeing how the photos were actually used by artists here at DA has further informed the technical aspects of how we shoot stock images such as angles, focus and lighting.

Whats one of the most rewarding aspects for you as a resource provider?

Thanks for being part of an amazing week everyone! We appreciate all the support and love we’ve received from our articles.

Our mission was to ‘re-educate’ on some issues and to serve a reminder to folks about guidelines that need to be followed! Hopefully you guys now have a clearer understanding of the issues mentioned.

Let’s hope so anyway!

We also hope you enjoyed our interviews with some amazing artists and stockers! we had fun doing those!

We wrote a few special articles because Project Educate allows us to get even closer with you guys and reach a  wider audience. The Potential Article was to show you guys what’s so great about stock! and to help open your mind and raise awareness of what stock is really about and why stock is essential to so many artists. We also highlighted other essential topics like, atmosphere and lighting, adequately crediting your resources, keywords, categories, and miscats.

We really hoped we’ve helped to do this. The more people that have a better understanding of stock and resources and how they work, the better!
