Lu is the lady behind the camera, the model in front of, and the mother of 2 beautiful daughters whom she has roped into modelling for her stock. We are assured there was no bribery involved, but we still aren't convinced!
As a continuation of our Project Educate Stock & Resources week we sent her our short list of questions to answer.
What were your first artistic influences, and did they have a hand in the development of your resources?
I joined DeviantArt many years ago and was immediately taken by the photomanipulations. So many amazing works. I started doing some myself and I realised how hard was to find a specific pose or even good objects etc. This is when I took the decision to take my own stock photography. I studied photography at university so grabbing a camera and starting to shoot was not hard, although I was seriously rusty and needed to polish my capturing skills. Thankfully I have 2 daughters that are more than happy to model for me and we always enjoy the photo sessions we have. Of course, when you start doing resources you suddenly realise how expensive it is to get costumes. The more unusual the costume the more money you have to spend. This is when I decided to start sewing my own. I didn't think it would be difficult.
Famous last words. Couple of years later and I have managed, through youtube videos and asking friends, to do many costumes and have thoroughly enjoyed my new found hobbie.
So now I start with a costume, set up a photo session and create manipulations. I do love it.
Whats one of the most rewarding aspects for you as a resource provider?
To see art made with my stock is the best reward I can have, and when artists let me have a nice large version is even better. I can then show my mum as her computer skills are almost nil.
Whats the one thing you find the most frustrating about being a resource provider?
Apart from some people not reading my rules? I get frustrated when I provide so much stock for free and you still find people that will use my NON-stock items to paint? That is frustrating, I thought I gave enough resources. All I ask is to leave my non-stock photos alone.
Do you have a favourite resource in your gallery, can you tell us why its a favourite?
From my own resources I love the Expressions Series I did. I did those for my 36th birthday and I love them because that was the result of overcoming my shyness and the hate of my body. At this point I decided I am who I am, age has never bothered me or scared me but, my weight always did. It was at this point where I learnt that if you hate something, do something about it. I lost loads of weight and although not BMI perfect, I am happy. And now I try to do a shoot for every birthday, it lifts my mood and makes me feel better about myself
Your stock gets used for a huge variety of artwork, do you have any favourites?
The right thing to say is that I love all art done, I really do love all of them.
I do however, have some favourites. These for me shows what imagination can do with the photos I produced and just love them
Last but not least, what flavour cupcake are you?
Lemon Drizzle Cake
